Descripción:

This historic garden created by Philip II is located on the sloping land at the west end of the Royal Palace. It owes its name, Campo del Moro or “Moor's Field”, to a historic episode that occurred in 1109, when Muslim leader Ali Ben Yusuf attacked the castle from the slope near the river in an attempt to recapture Madrid following the death of King Alfonso VI. He and his troops are said to have camped at the site where the gardens are located today.
