Virgen del Puerto Hermitage is located in the area of Madrid Río Park, and pays tribute to the patron saint of the Arganzuela district. For years it was the final destination of a pilgrimage in honour of the Virgen del Puerto (Virgin of the Port), which eventually gave rise to the La Melonera festivities celebrated in the present day. The Baroque-style building was constructed by Pedro de Ribera in the 18th century. It was completely destroying during the Spanish Civil War, and was rebuilt with the current structure and image of the virgin in 1945.
