Interior structure of Cultural Space Serrería Belga.
This new cultural centre run by Madrid City Council aims to become a meeting place for cultural stakeholders and professionals and a leading municipal venue in the cultural setting of the Paseo del Arte (Art Walk) and Barrio de las Letras (Literary Quarter), where it is located. Its facilities are the perfect place to showcase Madrid’s creative dynamism in the areas of art, music, design, literature, images and culinary culture. The space is housed in a singular building with industrial-style architecture that was built in the first quarter of the 20th century as the headquarters of the old Serrería Belga (Belgian Sawmill). Following extensive refurbishment, the nearly 4,000 m2 space has a wide range of cultural offerings, most notably an entire floor with an area of over 300 m2 devoted to exhibitions and a large space focusing on poetry, literature and Madrid’s role as a literary capital over the centuries.
