Part of the colonnade of the Monument to Alfonso XII
Sculptural ensemble, inaugurated in 1922, which pays homage to King Alfonso XII. Its architect, José Grases Riera, who also built the Palace of Longoria, took his inspiration from the National Kaiser Wilhelm Monument in Berlin. It is composed of a semicircle of two Ionic order colonnades in the centre of which is an equestrian statue of the monarch accompanied by other sculptured figures at the side entrances and a stairway that descends into the lake. Beneath the legs of the main sculpture’s horse is a lookout point that can be visited at certain times of the year. Booking information is available at https://reservaspatrimonio.es.
