Display of clothes worn by majos and majas, people in the 18th century with a characteristic style of dressing who were mainly from the Madrid neighbourhoods of Lavapiés and Malasaña, although the fashion spread to different parts of Spain
The Garment Museum, founded in 2004, houses a wide variety of historic and contemporary collections of clothing from the 16th century to the present. The building, designed to be a museum from the outset, was constructed between 1971 and 1973. It is the work of architect Jaime López de Asiain, who won the National Architecture Award in 1969.
