Plaza de Ramales
Plaza de Ramales is right in the heart of Madrid and is known for being the site of the former Church of San Juan Bautista, where artist Diego Velázquez was interred. The church was demolished in the era of Joseph Bonaparte to increase the circulation of air through the old Madrid de los Austrias (Hapsburg Madrid), in an era when the cemeteries were also moved to the outskirts of the city. A cross reminds us that the remains of the artist who gave us Las Meninas were located here.
