General shot of Ramón Gómez de la Serna's study at the Museum of Contemporary Art
The Museum of Contemporary Art, situated in the former Conde Duque barracks, showcases in two rooms part of the modern art collections owned by Madrid City Council, including a reconstruction of Ramón Gómez de la Serna's study. The writer’s study, known as the “Tower” and originally located in Calle Velázquez, consisted of a collection of items found in El Rastro flea market as well as pictures from magazines attached to the furniture and walls which could almost be an installation in their own right. It reflects the magical universe of the author, who was able to find poetry in the most unexpected details. His work includes his famous greguerías, short aphorisms which express philosophical thoughts lyrically and even comically.
