Traditional Confectionery (Torrijas)

Torrijas, Spain's answer to French toast, are a sweet treat traditionally eaten at Easter that are very popular all over Spain. Their origins go back to the Roman Empire, but the first reference to them in Spain is from the 15th century. They are made from slices of bread soaked in either milk or wine, dipped in egg and then fried.
