Engraved paving stones in Usera along the pedestrian route that links the heart of the neighbourhood with Madrid Río Park.
Known as Madrid’s Chinatown, Usera has become one of the Spanish capital’s most dynamic districts. Its shops and street décor remind us that Spain’s largest Chinese community lives here. It also stands out for its vibrant cultural scene—particularly its embrace of modern art—and its proximity to other areas of huge ecological importance such as Madrid Río Park. A 1.5-kilometre pedestrian route links the heart of the neighbourhood with this green space, which runs parallel to the River Manzanares. Along the walkway, we can observe elements connected with Chinese culture, such as paving stones engraved with carp, which in Chinese culture represent perseverance and overcoming adversity; a Chinese zodiac in Plaza de Julián Marías; and a large dragon-shaped playground spanning over 285m² in Plaza de las Tizas.
