Descripción:
Madrid celebrates Easter, a holiday that commemorates the passion, death and resurrection of Christ, with processions featuring drum rolls, trumpets and colourful garments worn by members of brotherhoods. The festivities typically feature sacred music in multiple churches around the city, which hold a Sacred Music Series to mark the occasion. The celebrations wind to a close with a masterful tamborrada (drum parade) in Plaza Mayor, and numerous brotherhoods set out from the square on processions featuring drums and bass drums that offer a musical tribute to the Resurrection of Jesus three days after he died. As is usually the case for any sort of religious celebration, at Easter people in Madrid make an array of typical foods that are closely linked to religious duty but also to tradition, such as torrijas (Spain’s answer to French toast), Soldaditos de Pavía (cod fritters), Madrid-style chickpea stew and cod croquettes.
