Flocks of sheep make the journey to Madrid from León along drovers’ roads in an agricultural tradition that last year celebrated the 25th anniversary of its recovery. The festival was started in 1994 to encourage parliament to approve new legislation on drovers’ roads that would recognise them as public property and a unique piece of heritage. It is organised by the Asociación Trashumancia y Naturaleza with the collaboration of Asociación Concejo de la Mesta, the MAVA Foundation, Madrid City Council and WWF Spain.
