Side view of the “Madrid Río Letters” monument, with the España Building (Riu Hotel) and the Torre de Madrid skyscraper in the background
This set of sculptures, which form the word “Madrid” beside a depiction of the iconic Bear and Strawberry tree, is located on the Puente del Rey Esplanade in Madrid Río Park. Made of recycled glass, the sculptures pay tribute to Madrid’s residents, the Madrileños, and their environmental awareness. This new emblem, illuminated at night with an LED system powered by solar panels, is a fantastic new “postcard” of the city, with one of its most representative panoramic views –the silhouettes of the Royal Palace, La Almudena Cathedral and the Basilica of San Francisco el Grande– in the background.
