Interior of El Espejo
This popular café, just a stone's throw from Café Gijón, is not actually as old as it looks. It opened in 1978 in the style of the Parisian cafés of the early 19th century, perhaps to make up for the fact that Madrid had never had a true Art Nouveau bar. With its charming pavilion featuring stunning stained-glass windows and lamps, it’s a lovely and elegant spot. The garden terrace is also a great choice for a leisurely breakfast or afternoon snack with a view of the National Library.
