Descripción:

Baroja is regarded as one of the greatest Spanish-language writers of all times. His novels, which are set in Madrid at the turn of the century, depict a period of great change in Spain. He belonged to the Generation of ‘98 and his writings are infused with the bitterness, nostalgia and existential weariness that characterise the work of this group of authors. His world view is reflected in the way he portrayed the Madrid of his time in novels like The Search and The Tree of Knowledge. In both works, he makes the city a true protagonist in addition to being the setting of the action that unfolds in the seedy underbelly of the historic centre and on the outskirts of a city that was growing and changing each day. This statue paying tribute to him is located on Cuesta de Moyano hill, one of his favourite places in Madrid.
