La Virgen de la Almudena Festivities (2024)

Around 9 November, the feast day of the Virgen de la Almudena, the city of Madrid honours its patron saint with a programme of worship organised by the Archdiocese of Madrid. Coinciding with the festivities, a traditional floral offering takes place in Plaza de la Almudena, where people bring flowers and non-perishable goods to be donated to charity. Many of the city’s patisseries also sell the classic Corona de la Almudena ring cake while Madrid City Council curates a series of events including classical music concerts, dance performances and cake tastings in Plaza Mayor.
